This option includes a full hour-long boat tour and guided hike. This package offers more boat time, more opportunities to encounter whales/marine life, and more information about the dynamic area of Resurrection Bay and the Kenai Fjords. We go out further in to the bay, getting to explore different sites with our Captain, Bixler McClure, who knows the area like the back of his hand. After our boat ride, we will be dropped off at Caines Head for our hike. The hike is 4 miles round trip with approximately 650ft elevation gain. The trail is well maintained and easy to moderate in difficulty. On our hike we will go through lush forest and encounter bunkers and historical remains from WWII where you can discover Alaska’s fascinating WWII history. We reach the summit of our hike as it opens to a massive bunker, gun batteries, and stunning vistas over the bay. After we spend some time taking in the views and exploring the bunkers, we will hike back down, enjoy the beach, and wait for our boat, returning us back to the harbor. Come enjoy this spectacular ocean and hike combo learning all about Alaska’s history, plants, and wildlife!

With this option you skip the boat tour and instead water taxi straight to Caines Head. You still have the same guided hike but without the extended boat time. You still get to experience some time on the water with the water taxi drop-off and pick-up. Which means there is still always a chance to see whales, sea lions, seals, and the ever cute otters. After our drop-off we will enjoy our time hiking and exploring all that Caines Head has to offer. We will spend about 3.5-4 hours at Caines head then will be picked up by our water taxi for our return back to the harbor. This is a great option for anyone that wants to hike Caines Head and learn more about Seward’s involvement in WWII but doesn’t feel the need for the extra sea time. Come enjoy the hike that Alaska Magazine lists as one of its top 10 hikes in AK!
